Evening Gold

Oil on board

6x8in.

A couple of months ago I started painting small studies, giving myself  2 hours to learn to paint quickly and not fuss over it for too long. I am finding it helpful so when I paint a larger one hopefully I won't spend so long on it. Sometimes when working too long on a painting I seem to get a bit lost and can't see whats wrong, I end up putting it aside for a while then when I look at it again it becomes obvious. By doing these small ones I can test colours and compositions to get more of a feel for how I want the bigger one to look and make the changes as I go instead of having to wipe it off. Some work some don't! The ones I am happy with I will sell or auction.

This scene is part of the Estuary  nearby, I went over one evening a few days ago and it was perfect timing before it got too dark.

For some reason this didn't photograph that well, it looks much better in life.

Daisies

Oil on canvas

6x6in.

This was a Daily Paintworks challenge posted by James Coulter  The idea was to paint flowers from the garden with Cad Red, Cad Yellow, Ultra Blue and White ( only using white to lighten a cool colour like blue or purple) limiting your painting time to one hour. It was an interesting challenge...I managed to do it in the hour and didn't use any white, it's the first painting I have ever done without using any white, an interesting lesson!

Winter Cloud

Oil on canvas

6x8in.

A couple of days ago I was at my front gate when I saw this cloud over the hills... it's usually quite misty when there are dark clouds  like these but this day it was cold and clear. I had to take a photo before it disappeared, even though it's a bit of a distance away I was able to get a good one...love the break in the clouds and the tree line along the top of the hills.

Canned Tomatoes

Oil on Board

6x8in.

I haven't entered a challenge for Daily Paintworks for a few weeks and had an empty can that once had tomatoes in it, I have always wanted to paint one of these. Well...I have and it was certainly a challenge, but a good one!

Morning Clouds

Oil on board

6x8in

Went on my usual morning walk and saw these lovely cloud formations, even though it was a cool morning there was a warm light across the landscape. I had my camera with me so I was able to take some photos before they changed.

Soft Silence

Oil on board

6x8in.

I painted this one a while ago, it was the evening and looking accross to the hills the soft violet sky seemed to create a silence all around.

Green and Gold

Oil on board

Time for a still life for a change. This is one of my favourite colour combinations, the cup was given to me from a friend and the pear just fitted in nicely so I had to paint it!
